"No, I can't go for that...no can do."
Being a '70s baby, and growing up in the 80's, one of my favorite songs was "I Can't Go for That", sung by one of the greatest pop duos of all time, "Hall & Oates". Now, the portion of the song that was the catchiest went like this:
If you're anything like me, whether as a child, teenager, or adult, you've said 'yes' to plenty of things you should have said 'no' to, and as the new year approaches, there will be plenty of 'New Year Resolutions' and statements of what things we will start doing when January 1st rolls around. Well, I've decided to compile a list of "10 Things I Will Not Do In The New Year" (and this list is by no means exhaustive):
1. No...I will not go into debt by living above my means, or trying to impress/keep up with friends, family members, or strangers. I will be a lender, not a borrower, and I will owe no man anything but love.
2. No...I will not mistake being busy, for being productive. One will keep you stagnant, frustrated, and can even make you sick, while the other will get you closer to your destiny.
3. No...I will not live vicariously through my children, by forcing them into areas of interests that are what I want them to pursue, instead of what they've been gifted and purposed to participate in.
4. No...I will not allow past hurts, disappointments, or closed doors, to rob me of my present and future joy. Life is too short, and God is a door opener too.
5. No...I will not settle for the comfort zone (in my marriage, in my parenting, in my work, or in my ministry). The comfort zone is where dreams go to die...and I choose to LIVE.
6. No...I will not expect others to validate my worth. God has already done that for me,
7. No...I will not jump to conclusions or assume I know the entire story. I will observe, listen, and pray for discernment and wisdom before giving an opinion and/or forming a conclusion.
8. No...I will not withhold acts of love, kindness, and forgiveness, just because someone else chooses to. My motives will always be pure, and ultimately, it's not about me.
9. No...I will not allow fear of the unknown to keep me from walking in faith. God didn't give me that.
10. No...I will not take heartaches, pain, grudges, misunderstandings, frustrations, or weights of any kind with me into the new year. God is doing a NEW thing, and I won't stand in His way!
Thanks for reading. Have a Merry Christmas, and a Happy, Prosperous & Blessed New Year!!!
But I can't go for that, no (no) no can do
